Nancy Tierney on Cabaret
Cabaret means freedom. Freedom to create a show that is unique, individual and personal. A show that comes from the heart and soul of the performer, performed in a way that the audience is invited into that show, either through their response to the material or their response to the performer. Cabaret is humanistic, in that it is really about people relating to and being with other people. The performer isn't separate or different or "more than" any other person in the audience. It is an equal and shared experience.
